The Role

The Head of the HR Advice Services manages the team responsible for supporting line managers to deliver excellent people management using the House's HR policies and procedures. They provide a source of expert advice for complex cases, monitor and manage workloads across the team, and identify opportunities for improving the service and building line management capability. They also manage the Members' HR Advice Service, which provides advice to Members of Parliament in their role as employers; primarily on discipline, grievance and restructures.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with the wider HR team which includes HR Policy and Advice, Health & Wellbeing, HR Business Partners, Learning & Development, Reward & Engagement, HR Shared Services and the Members' Hub to ensure a joined up operational service that enables delivery of a thriving parliamentary democracy.



The Person


The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

  • Proven experience of having advised managers at all levels, with a thorough understanding across a number of areas of HR, demonstrating professional expertise and the ability to understand business needs and propose pragmatic solutions

  • A deep and up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation, case law and best practice, with experience of translating this into operationally effective policy

  • Proven ability to set and deliver objectives that contribute to wider strategic priorities, including improving customer service, amending work plans to reflect internal or external influences

  • Fully CIPD qualified (or equivalent) with appropriate CPD since qualification
