A.T. Kearney

A.T. Kearney: The Company

A.T. Kearney is a leading global management consulting firm that specialises in strategic and operational consulting. Founded by Andrew Thomas Kearney in 1926 as a branch of McKinsey & Company in Chicago, the consultancy split off from McKinsey in 1939 and continued to operate as McKinsey and Kearney until 1947, when it was renamed to A.T. Kearney & Associates. In 1963, the firm was incorporated as A.T. Kearney & Company and, in 1972, the name was changed to A.T. Kearney, Inc.

The company opened its first international office in Düsseldorf in 1964 and has kept growing ever since. In 1972, A.T. Kearney expanded its consulting operations to Asia and opened an office in Tokyo. Today, the company operates out of 52 offices in 37 countries worldwide. In 2008, ATK was named to The Black Book of Outsourcing's prestigious list of Top Outsourcing Advisors.

The company made a pledge in 2007 to become carbon neutral by 2010 and was successful in this effort. ATK takes corporate social responsibility and sustainability very seriously as these are values that have been rooted in their 80-year history, and originally instituted by the company’s founder Tom Kearney. ATK also provides sustainability services for its clients.

Between 1995 and 2006, A.T. Kearney was a wholly owned subsidiary of EDS (Electronic Data Systems), but EDS eventually sold the company back to its management team. More than 170 ATK employees from 26 countries participated in the buyout as investors.
