Tata Consultancy Services

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS): The company

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is the consulting arm of the global giant Tata group. The company specialises in business solutions, IT services and outsourcing. The Tata group is one of the largest industrial conglomerates in the region, its business spanning a range of different industries, from hotels and tea to steel and energy. Tata Consultancy Services employs more than 174,000 IT consultants in 42 countries and, other than being a leader in off-shoring, TCS is also the biggest Asian software and IT services company. It has 57 subsidiaries across the globe; 20 directly-held and 37 indirectly-held.

Tata Consultancy Services has a unique business model, the Global Network Delivery Model, which helps the company deliver a wide range of services globally. Tata’s services include IT Consulting, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Engineering, IT Solutions, and IT Infrastructure Services. The Global Network Delivery Model allows TCS to offer clients top quality service in consulting, staffing, recruitment, and IT services at lower costs, making their business operations more efficient and the companies more competitive on their respective markets.

Careers at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

Tata Consultancy Services recruits consultants in approximately 50 countries and offers career opportunities across six continents. TCS’ main marketing keyword is Certainty, and also Trust. Even though it is a global company, TCS nurtures traditional Indian values. Consultants working at TCS will find that stability, commitment, and hard work are highly valued. TCS recruits heavily from universities with which it has strategic alliances – mostly in India, but also in the USA. Experienced hires often enter TCS on levels higher than those they had in their previous company.

Tata Consultancy Services UK offers IT and business consulting services to clients operating across a variety of industry sectors. In business since 1975, TCS UK employs and trains UK consultants, and helps them serve their clients more efficiently. TCS UK & Ireland is the second largest contributor for Tata Consultancy Services, bringing in as much as 19 percent of the company’s global revenue. Its clients include 24 FTSE 100 companies among others, and it employs over 3,700 consultants, who are supported by additional 10,000 consultants employed at TCS global solution centres.

The TCS Innovation Lab, founded in 2007 in Peterborough, is essential to Tata’s global innovation network, while Diligenta, a TCS subsidiary established in 2006 and employing 950 consultants, provides BPO services to customers operating in different industries across the UK.

The perspective

TCS has chalked constant growth over the last few years and broken a number of revenue records for Indian companies, mostly thanks to the ongoing global demand for outsourcing and off-shoring. Although India-based, TCS has strong presence in North America and Europe (UK being one if its current focuses), where it continues to recruit consultants specialising in different areas of expertise. TCS is a place of strong momentum, a big player that is getting top contracts. It serves seven of the Fortune 500 top-ten companies. TCS makes strategic investments and acquisitions, and keeps its main focus on information technology and outsourcing.

In 2009, Tata Consultancy Services was awarded with the SAP Pinnacle Award and, in 2010, the company won the Nasscom Social Innovation Honors prize and the Golden Peacock Award.
