Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP)

The organization and the mission

The Institute for Certification of Computing Professionals (ICCP) was founded in 1973 with the goal to raise the bar on knowledge and expertise in the information technology industry. Located in Des Plaines, Illinois, the Institute has upheld those high standards to this day and remains the leading globally recognized certification body in the field of information and communications technology. Candidates can take the ICCP certification test anywhere in the world.

The ICCP Education Foundation, an independently run non-profit institution, offers industry professionals, educators, government employees and the public a valuable opportunity to improve their skills and advance their knowledge by attending different educational programs. ICCP courses cover information systems and business management, as well as interpersonal skills. Well known university lecturers and authors are often hired to share their insights with the people who sign up for the programs.

ICCP: criteria and standards

The criteria for admission of new holders of the prestigious Certified Computing Professional (CCP) designation are very strict, in line with the reputation that ICCP has to uphold as both a patron and guarantor of first class ITC expertise and professionalism.

The ICCP Education Foundation is in charge of revising the certification exams and atuning them to the needs of the ever expanding information technology industry and market. Other than managing the certification process, coordinating publishing activities, conducting research and organizing various training courses, the Foundation is known for its ongoing development of the Information Technology Common Body of Knowledge, an official ICCP document that contains the list of all the items of knowledge in which all IT professionals ought to be well versed.

Benefits of obtaining ICCP certifications

In the process of pursuing ICCP certifications, individuals not only gain more expert knowledge, but inevitably become more confident and learn to be both more productive and professional in their workplace, which frequently leads to a salary raise (between 10 and 20% on average).

The certifications themselves are considered to be the ultimate proof of expert knowledge in the computing industry, so the individual's marketability is bound to increase in the long run. ICCP certifications guarantee that the holder has mastered advanced Information and Communication Technologies services and that he or she is committed to a professional code of ethics and to maintaining information confidentiality.

CCP holders also have the advantage of having more access to industry information and professional training opportunities, which recruiters and prospective employers always find appealing in a job candidate. Certification holders remain accountable to the Certification Council, which serves to further promote and protect the integrity of both the Institute and the CCP designation, raising their core values and esteem to an even higher level.
